A South Florida duplex burst into flames Tuesday night after it was struck by lightning.
It happened at Southwest 77th Court in Pinecrest.
Fire officials said the lightning bolt tore a hole in the roof and started a fire in the attic that spread quickly to both sides of the duplex.
"When we got there, we saw the flames coming through the roof," said Battalion Chief Pete Lugo. "We went inside. All the tenants were out. We pulled some of the ceiling directly where the fire was and we extinguished it.
Officials said residents of the duplex were home when the fire started, but no one was injured.
Both families are staying with friends until the building is repaired.
