PRICHARD, Ala. (AP) -- A 2-year-old boy died and his mother was seriously injured in a fire at a Prichard duplex, police said.
Eric Bryant Jr. died in the blaze Saturday morning, Prichard Police Capt. Charles Kennedy said. The boy's mother, Alaina Jackson, 23, was listed in fair condition Saturday night in the burn unit at the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
Authorities said the toddler's father and two other children were also in the home at the time of the fire.
Eric Bryant Sr., 27, was in stable condition Saturday, said Prichard city spokesman Harry McGadney.
Jackson's 7-month-old daughter, whose name was not immediately available, was listed in guarded condition Saturday at USA Children's and Women's, the Mobile Register reported.
Another son, Quinton Jackson, 3, was not injured in the blaze at the Alabama Village community, officials said.
Authorities began investigating about four hours after the fire, according to the Register.
''We have no reason at this time to think it's anything but accidental, but, of course, we have no answers,'' Kennedy said.
