Fire Scorches 14 Acres in East Bay, California
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of fire this afternoon that scorched 14 acres of remote hills in Alameda County.
The fire on Mount Allison, just a short distance from the Fremont border, was reported at 12:22 p.m and was under control in about 20 minutes, Fremont Fire Department spokesman Geoff LaTendresse said. No homes were threatened, nor were any injuries reported.
LaTendresse said welding operations were occurring on a radio tower and a fence in the area, but added that the cause of the fire remained unknown.
''We very often have had fires that have been caused by a bird flying into a high wire, so at this point it is still under investigation,'' he said.
