OMAHA, Neb. --
A Cass County man was allegedly shot in a stand-off with law enforcement near Ashland on Wednesday night.
Stanley Bjorkman is accused of shooting a volunteer firefighter who responded to a brush fire at a home on Horseshoe Lake earlier Wednesday.
The lake is in Cass County near the Zoo Wildlife Safari and Mahoney State Park. The incident started around 5 p.m.
Bjorkman remained inside his home after the shooting. Deputies said he was holding them at bay. Around 7:30 p.m. troopers said the man walked out of his house pointing a gun at officers. That's when troopers fired at Bjorkman, injuring him.
Neighbor, Jesse Jorgensen, reported hearing 35 gunshots as Bjorkman walked out the front door of his home.
An ambulance took the 58-year-old to Creighton University Medical Center. He was treated and released and is in police custody.
The injured firefighter works with the Ashland volunteer fire department. Rodger Alley was treated for a gunshot wound and released from the hospital just after 9 p.m.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department and Nebraska State Patrol responded to the shooting blocking off the neighborhood at Hwy. 66.
Neighbors reported seeing deputies with their guns drawn outside their homes. Authorities called out the SWAT team to deal with the stand-off situation.
