A three-alarm fire erupted early Monday morning in an apartment community in Columbia.

The fire started at about 4:15 a.m. at the Avalon at Symphony Glen Apartment Complex, located in the 10300 block of Hickory Ridge Road. Fire officials said 14 apartments spanning two separate buildings were fully involved in flames.

Authorities told 11 News they have deemed damages at about $2.5 million. They have determined the cause as accidental, saying the blaze started inside one of the walls of a building on the complex.

No one was reported injured as a result of the fire, which firefighters continued to address into the late morning hours.

Fire officials told 11 News Monday's blaze marks the third major fire at the complex in seven years. Both 14-year-old buildings were up to code, but did not have a sprinkler system.

The Red Cross and the apartment complex have begun assisting the displaced residents.
