CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- A fire at a building on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, officials said.
In addition, a firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion after battling the roof fire early Monday at the Phillips Hall Annex building.
Two fire departments responded to an alarm, and found a smoldering fire feeding off wooden decking supports under the roof, said Robert Bosworth, deputy fire chief of the Chapel Hill Fire Department.
Firefighters worked for about two hours to extinguish the fire. Power was later restored to the building and roof repairs had begun by Monday afternoon.
The 3,000-square-foot building is used for reading and writing assistance.
