THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) -- Firefighters rescued tenants from balconies as flames swept through a suburban Houston apartment complex for senior citizens early Tuesday.

Four people were injured and about 150 were evacuated from their apartments by the fire that struck the Copperwood Apartments in The Woodlands about 25 miles north of Houston.

About 50 people were left homeless by the fire, which destroyed 12 units and damaged 20 others in one wing of the complex.

The injured were taken to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, where spokeswoman Jamie O'Roark said three were treated for minor injuries and released. A fourth victim is hospitalized in good condition.

The cause of the four-alarm fire is under investigation.
