COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A red flag fire alert warning of the dangers of wildlfires was lifted by the South Carolina Forestry Commission on Monday.
The danger of wildlfires was reduced by showers, high humidity and lower wind speeds, commission spokesman Ken Cabe said.
The alert was posted Friday for the entire state. A red flag alert does not prohibit outdoor burning, but warns of the high risk of wildfires.
Forestry Commission firefighters responded to more than 200 fires while the alert was in effect, Cabe said. The largest fire was a 180-acre blaze near Gaston in Lexington County.
