A backpack containing underwear touched off a scare Monday near an abortion clinic in Bossier City, and in New Orleans part of the city's streetcar system was shut down because of abandoned bags.
The incidents Monday reflected concern in light of recent bombing attacks on London's transit system.
''Due to the heightened level of homeland security, all suspicious packages should be treated as dangerous until professionals can render them safe,'' said Bossier City police Cpl. Sam Wyatt.
The backpack was found about 9 a.m. near the back door of the Bossier Medical Suite Abortion Clinic. Firefighters used a water cannon to open the pack and found the garment inside.
The area around the clinic was sealed off briefly.
In New Orleans, part of the trolley line on Canal Street was shut down for a time after an abandoned handbag was found at a streetcar.
No weapons were found in the bag.
Shortly afterward, pedestrians were banned from walking in Woldenberg Park in the French Quarter after an abandoned suitcase was found by a guard. Police said nothing dangerous was found in the suitcase.
