Flags are flying at half-mast as the Magic City mourns the death of a local fireman fighting with the army in the Middle East. The flags fly low to honor fallen Birmingham fireman Jeffrey Farrow who died six months into a year long military tour.
The 28-year-old Birmingham man died of non-combat related injuries at a camp in Kuwait.
Birmingham Fire Department Spokesman Captain C.W. Mardis said, "He loved his job, he loved the military and he talked about it quite often. He was proud to be in the military and also proud to be a fire fighter."
Farrow spent a little more than three years fighting fires here in Birmingham, working out of station 13. But Capt. Mardis says he was honored to serve with Farrow, even for a short time.
