Dozens of rescuers rushed to save a construction worker who fell through a 50-foot hole early Friday morning at the water intake system in Columbia.

First responders said that a man working on top of the structure slipped and tumbled into the hole 15 feet below water level around 8 am. Rescue crews needed ladders to reach the injured man....and they used a crane to pull him out.

A LifeFlight helicopter took the man to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Authorities say he was conscious when he was transported.

The man worked for a contractor out of Birmingham, Alabama.
