Colorado Town Cuts Off Free Water to Fire Department
PAONIA, Colo. (AP) -- The town council of this western Colorado community has voted to stop providing free water to the fire department, library, historical society, and seniors' center.
``The entities have taken it all right,'' said Councilman Ron Rowell, who also serves as fire chief.
The fire department will pay the basic rate for non-emergency water, but will not be charged for water used to put out fires.
Councilman Zach Mann said officials determined that some non-profits were paying for water and some were not and it was decided to make everyone pay.
