RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- Several downtown Rapid City businesses were cleaning up Monday from an early morning fire.

Rapid City fire Capt. Mark Kirchgessler said the fire started in an alley and crews were able to quickly knock down the main blaze.

But firefighters spent several hours putting out small fires in walls and a roof.

A number of businesses had smoke damage but no estimates were available. Investigators were still searching for a cause Monday.
