(New York -WABC, December 20, 2004 ) -- Firefighters had to battle cold winds and very low temperatures as they fought a two alarm fire in the Midland Beach section of Staten Island.

It happened on Grimsby Street near Bedford Avenue. The fire hit a multi-family home just before 5:30 a.m.

The fire quickly went to two alarms. There are reports that one firefighter was hurt battling the blaze.

Several people were displaced from their homes and crews were said to be searching for some residents who were not accounted for as of 6:00 a.m.

The fire wasn't officially under control yet, and there were reports of live wires down at the scene.

The cause of the fire wasn't yet known.
