Georgia Firefighters, Police Officers Tried To Free Forklift Operator Killed At Warehouse
Tragedy struck at the Ocean Link warehouse in Garden City around 4pm. Savannah Fire Department and Garden City police responded to the call that a forklift operator was trapped under a load of lumber. Investigators say the operator was moving lumber around when the load shifted and fell, crushing the cage of the forklift and killing the operator.
Emergency teams then had to stabilize the pile of wood to reach the operator.
"Apparently, it was a two-by-four stack, a considerable amount of lumber that was involved in the accident," said Matthew Stanley with Savannah FD. "Probably 12, 14 foot lengths of lumber. Our unit was called in to stabilize the load."
Michael Mincey had been working at the warehouse for several years.
