Elderly Couple Killed in Fast Moving New Jersey Fire

A large house fire in New Jersey has left two people dead. Several firefighters were also hurt.

(Hazlet-WABC, June 9, 2005) -- A large house fire in New Jersey has left two people dead. Several firefighters were also hurt.

Eyewitness News reporter Ken Rosato joins us from Hazlet with more.

According to fire officials, the blaze broke out inside the home at 6 Virginia Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. Firefighters battled heavy smoke to get inside the home.

Firefighers pulled an elderly couple out, both residents, out of the blazing house. Both victims were pronounced dead at Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel.

The fire resulted in nine firefighters being treated at area hospitals for various injuries, including smoke inhalation and one who fell off a ladder. None of the injuries are considered life threatening.
