MOORESBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- Two volunteer fire trucks responding to a call were demolished after they hit a patch of black ice on a winding road and crashed.

A third Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department truck spun around on the ice but wasn't damaged.

The trucks were headed to a fire at an unoccupied house on Spruce Pine Road early Wednesday when the first one rounded the icy curve and slid into a field, said Chief Jim Klepper.

The second truck stopped on the road to help.

``It was sitting dead still in the road, and it just started sliding and scooted plumb off the bank and rolled over. The road was on a slant, and that was some slick ice,'' the chief said.

No one was seriously hurt, but both trucks were totaled.

Despite the accidents, the Lakeview and Striggersville volunteer fire departments were able to get to the fire.

Klepper said the totaled trucks were insured, but it could take a while to get replacements.

In the meantime, the department will use reserve trucks and rely on the Bean Station and Striggersville volunteer fire departments for backup if necessary.

``We'll be OK for the time being,'' Klepper said.
