The fire early Saturday gutted the house and killed 7-year-old Tristan Davison and 9-year-old Juan Davison. Authorities said the fire possibly started in the first-floor bedroom shared by the boys.
``We're still looking at a couple of things,'' fire investigator David Miller said. ``We've eliminated some things.''
The boys' father, Jason Davison, his wife, Sarah, and two other children, Ayla, 5, and Phoebe, 14 months, were able to escape the fire by climbing down a ladder near a second-story window.
Emergency crews found the house fully engulfed in flames when they arrived about 3 a.m. Firefighters found both boys on the first floor, and they both were soon pronounced dead.
The owner of the house just south of the city's downtown said that the Davison family had hurriedly moved into the house because of financial problems. The house was being renovated, Angela Folkner wrote in an e-mail to The Star Press.
``We had obtained all the needed materials but had been unable to get the roof repaired before this horrible tragedy occurred,'' Folkner said.
