SOMESVILLE, Maine (AP) -- Fire marshals were investigating two fatal blazes in Maine that occurred in a period of less than 24 hours.

Investigators said an electrical problem was to blame for a fire that erupted Monday night in a large summer home in Somesville on Mount Desert Island, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The home's caretaker, Dana Lovejoy, 51, died from smoke inhalation when he went upstairs to investigate, McCausland said.

The fire started in an electrical fixture above the kitchen ceiling and Lovejoy's body was found in a bedroom directly above the kitchen, McCausland said. The home, owned by a woman in Florida, suffered damage to the two rooms, he said.

The other fire fatality Sunday night in Windsor. Elyse Laplante-Ellis, 44, was rescued from a second-floor window but died while being transported to an Augusta hospital; her husband suffered burns and smoke inhalation but survived.

Fire investigators have determined the blaze started in an attached barn, McCausland said.
