In Clay City, several volunteer firefighters are some taking time off, but it's not by choice.

They've been suspended after accusations of drinking on the job.

The fire department is made up of volunteers. If you can't respond to a fire, for whatever reason, other members go out on the call or a nearby department is called in.

That's why one board member tells 27 NEWSFIRST he can't understand why someone would fight a fire impaired.

"We want the community to know that we're going to deal with it. We're not going to tolerate it."

In all, five volunteers responded to the fire last week. One received a warning, since he was at the scene but wasn't drinking.

Three others received a two week suspension, followed by a six month probation period.

The fifth firefighter resigned before the investigation even began. He took a position as the assistant fire chief in Stanton.
