MONTREAL (CP) -- Eleven people were injured, including two Hydro-Quebec workers and a firefighter, when a blaze broke out at a long-term care residence for seniors on Monday.
Eight residents at the facility suffered minor injuries and were among the 157 people who were forced to leave the institution in bitterly cold temperatures, said a spokesman for the city's ambulance service.
A number of the residents have reduced mobility.
The Hydro-Quebec employee, who was in critical condition, was working in the building's utility room when a fire and explosion occurred in the electrical system.
The residents weren't expected to return to the hospital for several days until the electrical system is working again. They were to be transferred to another long-term care centre.
