NEW YORK (AP) -- A firefighter became the latest member of the department arrested on a drunken-driving charge after police pulled him over for a broken tail light early Thursday.
James Figaro, 28, on the force for two years, was arrested on City Island at 2:18 a.m., police said. Sgt. Kevin Hayes, a police spokesman, said no further details on his arrest were available.
A fire department spokesman said Figaro was assigned to Engine 97 in the Bronx. Information on Figaro's work status was not immediately available, the spokesman said.
Dozens of firefighters have been arrested on drunken-driving charges this year and Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta said in June that the department would examine stiffening the penalties for driving drunk while off duty.
