Crews Battling Wildfire Near Picacho Peak in Arizona; Blaze in Patagonia Mountains Contained
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A wildfire near Picacho Peak had burned about 1,200 acres of grass and brush by Thursday night, authorities said.
The Foster Fire began Thursday afternoon in the area north of Picacho Peak several miles east of Interstate 10, said Cliff Pearlberg, a fire official with the state Land Department.
It is not clear what started the blaze, which was being fought by about 90 people including firefighters from Avra Valley, Picture Rocks, Northwest Fire, Corona de Tucson, the Rincon Valley Fire District and the Arizona State Land Department.
No structures are being threatened by the fire and no injuries have been reported, Pearlberg said.
He said seven fire engines and two single-engine aircraft tankers are being used to fight the fire.
There was no estimated date for containment, according to Pearlberg.
Meanwhile, a 150-acre wildfire in the Patagonia Mountains near the border with Mexico was contained Thursday night.
The Antonio Fire was discovered in a remote location of the Coronado National Forest on Wednesday afternoon.
