Olin, Illinois Considers Privatizing Security, Firefighters

EAST ALTON, IL -- Olin Corp. is looking into privatizing the positions of the company's security officers and firefighters to save costs.

Ann Pipkin, spokeswoman for Olin, said on Thursday the company's only looking into the possibility of contracting its services for 35 security guards and firefighters.

Last week, rumors spread throughout the community that Olin would be contracting out the two departments' services. Both units are members of the United Steel Workers Union Local 9189, and workers' jobs would be replaced within 30 days because of the company
