A Bellevue, Washington, man is lucky to be alive and unburned after gas fumes exploded around him while he was filling his car with gasoline.

The gas station security camera caught the scene as Derek Walker patiently pumped gas into his yellow Ferrari.

Suddenly, a fireball engulf both him and his car. In the video, Walker instinctively jumps away but not before being enveloped in flames.

Walker credits the fact that gas fumes rather than the liquid itself caught fire at first, letting him scramble away unharmed.

A quick-acting station attendant is seen moments later suppressing the raging blaze with a fire extinguisher.

The car was still burning when firefighters arrived. They were able to put out the blaze, but not before the expensive Italian sports car sustained heavy damage.

Fire officials say while such incidents are highly unusual, it is easy for static electricity to spark such a blaze when conditions are right.

No word on whether the Ferrari was insured against fire damage.
