Kent County, MI -- A man was killed and a firefighter was injured after an early morning accident in Kent County.

It happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I-96 near Fruit Ridge Avenue in Walker.

Police say slick roads caused a driver to lose control of his car and slide into the median. He then got of his vehicle to look at the damage, and was greeted by John Roy, a volunteer firefighter with the Wright-Tallmadge Fire Department, who stopped to help.

That is when a third vehicle slid off the road and hit the men, killing the first driver, 24-year-old Andrew Corner of Coopersville, and injuring Roy.

Roy hurt his leg but is expected to recover.

Police say their report will be sent to the prosecutor for review.
