Progress Report - Florida
St. Petersburg, FL, April 21, 2005 -- At 9:54 A.M., units from B Shift of St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue responded to a working residential fire in an "enclosed" (boarded up) structure. After a short offensive attack, units went to a defensive strategy due to rapidly changing smoke conditions, although the fire did not flash over. It took 10 units 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire was declared arson and a suspect was arrested. Crews remained at the scene for several hours overhauling and cleaning up. One minor firefighter injury was reported. This was second arson fire in the structure within a month and the first of two "workers" for first-due Engine 3 during that shift.
