HONOLULU (AP) -- No injuries were reported after a fast-moving fire destroyed a 12-unit apartment building early Sunday morning in Aiea.

The building on Lipoa Place was evacuated after the fire broke out just after 1 a.m., fire officials said.

Investigators determined the fire started when someone left food cooking on a stove and then forgot about it.

The flames made it into the attic space and then spread uninhibited throughout the extent of the building, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Captain Emmit Kane said.

About 30 firefighters battled the blaze, keeping it from spreading to nearby apartment buildings.

Fire officials estimated damage at $450,000.
