MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- More than half the residents of a Mesa nursing home were evacuated Monday night after a fire broke out on the second floor, authorities said.
Authorities said 47 of the 81 residents were taken from the Desert Palms Retirement Center by ambulance to hospitals or other nursing homes or they were taken home by family members.
There were no reported injuries, authorities said.
Authorities said the fire apparently started on a couch shortly before 7 p.m. There was no immediate damage estimate.
