A Wednesday morning fire at a duplex led to the arrest of a tenant after firefighters found chemicals and other materials used in the production of methamphetamine.
Chief Jim Williams of the Kent Fire Department said firefighters went to a duplex in the 1000 block of Silver Meadows Boulevard around 7:15 a.m. They encountered heavy smoke and flames, but were able to douse the flames in about 15 minutes, Williams said.
The follow-up investigation turned up hazardous and flammable chemicals used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Sgt. Sam Todd of the Kent Police Department said Raymond A. White, 24, the tenant, was arrested around 1 p.m. Wednesday. White faces a felony charge of possession and intent to distribute a controlled substance.
White suffered minor injuries from the fire; no one else was hurt, Williams said.
Agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration's hazardous materials team were called to handle cleanup, which lasted into Wednesday evening.
The investigation is ongoing, Todd said, and additional arrests are possible.
