May 25, 2005 -- A lost ring that a retired second-generation city firefighter inherited from his dad was returned to him last night during a ceremony at the Brooklyn firehouse where both men served.

The gold and diamond ring was presented to firefighter John Lofaro, of Engine Co. 282 Ladder 148 in Borough Park, when he was promoted in 1938.

After Lofaro's death in 1979, his son Mike, now 79, wore it until he lost it on a train in Florida a few weeks ago. But a man found the ring the next day and contacted the firehouse.
