RENO, Nev. (AP) -- The former assistant fire chief for the Walker River Fire Department has been sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay back money he stole from the department's bank account.
Elvin Willie Jr. of Shurz must pay back the $13,856 he withdrew between November 2002 and May 2003 using the departments automatic teller machine card.
U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks last week also ordered Willie to perform 100 hours of community service.
Willie was indicted by a federal grand jury in May on one count of embezzlement from a tribal organization _ the Walker River Paiute Tribe.
