Fire Razes Home in Pennsylvania

An East Goshen single-family home near West Chester Pike was destroyed by fire early this morning. No one was injured in the 5:30 a.m. blaze that took 21/2 hours to bring under control.

Flames shot through the roof of the one-and-a-half story house on the 300 block of Dutton Mill Road and a fire official said there were explosions, likely from a propane tank and other combustibles, as they fought the blaze.

Two occupants of the house escaped, officials said.

Alan Wehbe, a rescue engineer for the Goshen Fire Company, said the fire was initially reported as a tree fire. It apparently started in the garage and spread to the house.

He said electrical wires were burning and arcing in the front yard, and that forced firefighters to attack the blaze from the rear. Two vehicles in the garage were destroyed.

Wehbe said the fire was extinguished about 8 a.m. and that the cause is under investigation. Nine fire companies from Chester and Delaware Counties responded to the blaze.
