CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) -- A fire killed a 9-year-old boy and his mother cut her leg trying to re-enter their burning house, a city spokesman said.
Austin Kell died in the Sunday morning fire on Freewill Road and his mother, Renea Kell, ``sustained a large cut on her leg'' trying to get to him through a window, spokesman David Jones said.
Renea Kell was taken to a hospital in Bradley County. The boy's father, Thomas Kell, suffered burns and was airlifted to a Chattanooga hospital.
The victim's 10-year-old brother, Thomas Kell Jr., who was sleeping in a back bedroom with him, alerted their parents and was not hurt, Jones said.
The State Fire Marshall's Office and Cleveland Fire Department were investigating but Jones said there was no sign of foul play.
