GUILFORD, Vt. (AP) -- No one was injured when a mower ran over the vale to an underground propane tank, sending a 30-foot-high fume of gas vapor into the air.

Firefighters from several area towns doused the cloud with water before recapping the tank along Potter Hill Road on Monday, according to Guilford Fire Chief Dan Stoughton.

It's not clear how much gas was released from the 1,000 gallon tank.

The tank was half empty when the accident occurred, Stoughton said.

Propane is a colorless and highly flammable gas that tends to ignite under pressure.

The only hazard to fire crews Monday was the heat, said Stoughton.

``It all went very well,'' he said.
