Don Denney, a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan., fire department, said the smoke could be seen for miles. No one was injured.

Firefighters received a call about 5:25 a.m. reporting a fire at the Deffenbaugh Materials Recycling Facility near 88th Street and Kaw Drive.

Once there, firefighters found several large bundles of recycled paper and cardboard burning outside the plant.
