YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- The daughter of a state fire investigator in Nebraska will avoid prison time for setting her Yankton mobile home on fire in order to collect insurance money.

Amanda Jo Pfeifer-Wedekind, 23, originally of Fairmont, Neb., could have gotten up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree arson for the November fire.

``Saying I'm sorry isn't enough,'' Pfeifer told the court. ``I've made a mockery out of my father's profession, and that's something I have to live with every day.''

Pfeifer-Wedekind, who is eight months pregnant, has served 64 days in jail and has to serve another 13 days.

``It scares me I might not be there for the first years of my son's life, and that I'll have to tell him what I did,'' she said.

First Circuit Judge Glen Eng on Tuesday sentenced Pfeifer-Wedekind to 10 years probation, a $1,500 fine and required her to pay back the cost of damage to the home. Every November during her probation, Pfeifer-Wedekind will have to spend the month of November in the Yankton jail.

The arson charge will be taken off her record if she follows the terms of her probation.

``It is now in your hands to make sure you comply,'' Eng told her. ``In many respects, it is nothing more than any other person has to do every day of their life.''

Unrelated bad check charges were dropped, though she has to pay back the money.

Pfeifer-Wedekind admitted to investigators that she set a fire in the laundry room of her trailer home Nov. 18 in order to collect on an insurance policy. Investigators originally ruled the fire accidental, but Pfeifer became a suspect after an anonymous tip. She was arrested Dec. 13.
