BILOXI, Miss. (AP) -- An electrical shortage caused a fire that destroyed six units of an apartment complex this past weekend, officials say.

Two people were slightly injured while jumping off a second-floor balcony to escape the fire at Saxony Apartments in Biloxi.

The blaze started Sunday and quickly spread through the front portion of the two-story, 48-unit New Orleans-style brick complex located on U.S. 90 near the beach.

About 40 residents were displaced by the fire. Six apartments were destroyed, while others received smoke and water damage.

Fire Chief David Roberts said Wednesday the electrical shortage occurred in the floor between the upstairs and downstairs.

``It burned up inside the wall and into the attic and burned up there for some time before anybody even discovered it,'' Robert said. ``As a matter of fact, the fire was burning back down into the apartments when residents discovered it. That explains how so much burned so quickly. By the time they realized it, the attic was already burned and it was burning back down.''

No serious injuries were reported, though the two residents who jumped from the balcony suffered minor injuries and drove themselves to a hospital.
