JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- A three-alarm fire at a high-rise apartment building sent four firefighters to the hospital with minor injuries Saturday morning.
Fifteen other people were treated at the scene for chest pains, shortness of breath and other ailments. It was not immediately clear if they were tenants of the building.
Officials say the fire started just before 9 a.m. on the 15th floor of the 21-story Gregory Apartments. The fire was confined to one unit and a hallway, and was extinguished in about an hour, according to fire Capt. Andrew Johnson.
Two firefighters were in fair condition Saturday at Jersey City Medical Center. One suffered chest pains, while the other slipped and hurt his back, neck and shoulder, Johnson said.
Two other firefighters were treated and released at Jersey City Medical Center.
The cause of the blaze is believed to be electrical, Johnson said.
Nearly all the building's estimated 1,000 residents were able to return to their apartments after the blaze was extinguished.
