ATLANTA (AP) -- The pilot of a single-engine plane being used by a flight training school was forced to crash land Saturday morning, snarling traffic at a busy intersection near Atlanta.
The two men aboard the Cessna were not seriously injured.
Shortly after 9 a.m., the plane took off from DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.
It almost immediately appeared to lose power and hurtled toward the ground - tearing through a fence and coming to a stop on Dresden Drive, near the intersection of Clairmont Road and Buford Highway.
"Probably another 100 yards and we could have had a very bad situation," said DeKalb County Fire Department deputy Chief.
The National Transportation Safety Board towed the plane to a nearby hangar and was investigating the cause of the crash. It was unclear whether mechanical failure or pilot error caused the problem, authorities said.
