The Suffolk County Fire Department will be holding an emergency blood drive in honor of and to benefit Firefighter Joseph DiBernardo of Rescue 3.
DiBernardo was critically injured on January 23, 2005 while battling a three-alarm fire in a four-story apartment building in the Bronx. DiBernardo along with five other firefighters jumped from a fourth floor rear window after they became trapped above the fire. Two of the firefighters, Lieutenant Curtis Meyran and Lieutenant John G. Bellew later succumbed to their injuries at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.
DiBernardo is an instructor at the Suffolk County Fire Academy and a member of the Northern Brookhaven Rescue Team and the Setauket Fire Department. Please help support FF DiBernardo by donating blood.
