KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Kansas City woman died after fire filled her home with heavy smoke.

Neighbors reported the blaze around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman, whose name was not released by authorities, was found in a bedroom and emergency officials tried unsuccessfully to revive her.

Officials said it appeared the blaze may have started in a family room and quickly spread. Authorities had not determined if the home had working smoke detectors.

A neighbor, Dianna Fick, said the victim lived at the house in northern Kansas City with her husband. Battalion Chief Germane Friends said no one else was inside the house.
