Authorities did not release the names of those killed in the Thursday afternoon blaze, but neighbors and friends identified them as June Peterson, her mother and Peterson's almost 1-year-old daughter, Chloe.
Cheryl Arnold, manager of the Shoneys restaurant where Peterson worked as a dining room supervisor, said she worried when Peterson didn't show up for work Thursday.
``Everybody's just in shock,'' she said.
``I can tell you in my almost 30 years of firefighting, I don't remember a three-fatality fire,'' Deputy Fire Chief Gary Whiteaker said.
There was little sign of damage outside the rented home, but the air hung heavy with the smell of smoke.
``The loss to the property means nothing compared to the loss of three victims,'' Whiteaker said.
The fire's cause was under investigation. The medical examiner did not release the cause of death, but Whiteaker said smoke inhalation often is to blame.
