MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (AP) -- The fire chief and two firefighters have been suspended while police investigate spending in the fire department.
Nathan Goodlove, assistant fire chief, reported what he described as questionable transactions at Monday's fire department business meeting.
The investigation was turned over to police, who are looking to see if any of the transactions were illegal.
Fire Chief Paul Pata and two firefighters were suspended until the investigation is complete, police said in a news release.
The Fire Department has asked for an independent audit to determine how much money was involved, police said.
The investigation was continuing.
