Kipp Jones, a West Hancock volunteer firefighter, turned himself in to the county jail Tuesday, a day after his brother, also a firefighter, and his father, the fire chief, were arrested. All three face felony embezzlement charges.
After his arrest on Monday, Chief Kim Jones called the charges politically motivated, but Investigator Tom Roan said the arrests stem from a lengthy investigation.
"I'm not even from here. I've got nothing to gain from these arrests," Roan said. "Someone committed a crime and an investigation is ongoing."
Roan said other charges and arrests could occur by the time the investigation into the West Hancock department is through.
Mick Bullock, executive assistant in the State Auditor's Office, said a "request for assistance" from the Hancock County Sheriff's Department has been filed, and state authorities plan to review the investigation.
Arrest warrants, signed by Justice Court Judge Tommy Carver, set the three bonds at $50,000. But two of the suspects were released on $500 bonds, just after their arrests, because authorities did not see them as flight risks.
Kipp Jones turned himself in nearly 24 hours later, and authorities said his bond remains at $50,000.
