BASTROP, Texas (AP) -- Fire broke out early Friday in the kitchen area of the federal prison at Bastrop, a prison system spokesman said.
The fire occurred about 6 a.m., and firefighters were still at the prison three hours later, said Dan Dunne, spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
No injuries were reported among inmates or staff at the Federal Correctional Institute at Bastrop, Dunne said, citing preliminary information.
``The institution was secured as a result of this incident, and all of the inmates are secure in their housing units,'' Dunne said.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
The Bastrop federal prison is a low-security institution for men. There is a minimum-security federal men's prison camp next to the facility.
Bastrop is about 30 miles southeast of Austin.
