TRENTON - The fire department yesterday displayed new, safer self-contained breathing units, commonly called air packs, that firefighters will soon wear when they enter burning structures.

The department bought 73 packs, made by Scott Technologies, for about $244,000, a combination of city money and a $159,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
