Two Henrico firefighters were taken to MCV hospital Thursday morning after the fire engine they were in was involved in a crash.
The accident happened at around 9:00 am in Henrico's East End, at Darbytown and Laburnum.
Witnesses and police say fire trucks were responding to a report of an electrical fire in a home. The fire truck, with its lights and sirens on, was west bound on Darbytown and had made its way mostly through the intersection when it was struck by a south bound box truck.
The impact turned the fire engine on its side. One firefighter was trapped for a short time. Two firefighters and the driver of the truck were both transported to the hospital.
Henrico Police say that a crash team will determine who is at fault.
There is little word yet on the extent of the injuries. Authorities will only say that they are not life threatening. Early reports indicate the fire truck should be able to be fixed and returned to service.
