Greenfield, Massachusetts Woman Found Dead in Apartment Fire

GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A woman was found dead after a three-alarm fire destroyed two of three apartments in a small multifamily home here.

Several passers-by reported Monday morning's fire to dispatchers. Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring buildings a few feet away, fire Capt. Richard Townsley said.

Authorities were trying to confirm the identity of the middle-aged woman found dead in the fire.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. It did not appear to be suspicious, Townsley said.
