More than 20 firefighters are on the scene of an apartment fire in east Charlotte that has streets blocked off and paramedics treating at least two people, officials said.

More than 20 firefighters are on the scene of an apartment fire in east Charlotte that has streets blocked off and paramedics treating at least two people, officials said.

Charlotte firefighters were called to an apartment complex near the intersection of Albemarle Road and Farm Pond Lane about 3:35 p.m.

A Medic communications supervisor said two people, one of them a child, were taken to Carolinas Medical Center. The injuries are believed to be serious, but additional information wasn't immediately available.

Officers have shut off traffic in the area.
